2010 Fun Day Horton Kirby

On Sunday the 11th of July 2010, DDAPS held their annual Youth Fun Day at Horton Kirby lakes. 272 budding young anglers turned up for the event, which is a rise on last years attendance . Once again all young guests received a complete fishing outfit courtesy of the Tackle Box in Dartford, compete with pole, rigs, a bait box and also a tackle box containing various essential tackle items to start them on their way. All of which were put to good use on the day, with nearly everyone catching a few fish. As usual a competition was held in the afternoon as well as the coveted angler of the day award, this year won by a Master Jacob Hare. The youngsters were helped out on the day by professional angling coaches and an army of willing volunteers, without whom the day would have not been possible.
After the event a giant raffle was held, with numerous complete fishing kits and other prizes won. After the day many guests wished for their thanks to passed on to all involved, and stated that they will certainly be fishing again in the very near future, no doubt at Dartford Lakes, as all of the guests received a free day ticket to fish there with their new kit.
It was great to see so many youngsters out in the countryside with their friends or family, and we look forward to welcoming them all again at next years event.

2009 Fun Day Horton Kirby

On Sunday many families enjoyed a great day at DDAPS Horton Kirby for the DDAPS kid’s fun day. The lakes were packed with kids and their parents, many enjoying their 1st angling experience. Estimates put the number of kids at 250 but we would suggest that there were more than that. Also in attendance were the Kent Police, the Environment Agency and representatives of the big local angling shops. DDAPS would like to thank both The Tackle Box and Mark 2 Angling for all the support they provided on the day. Very few, if any, went away without at least one piece of free angling kit as well as some very useful information from the Environment Agency. The kids watched demonstrations from qualified coaches and from experienced DDAPS anglers on many facets of angling and watched fish being caught. Many of the kids then went onto catch fish of their own with very few returning empty landing nets. There was a small match for the kids plus many raffle prizes. All in all a very successful day, very well organised by all at DDAPS and a huge pat on the back for all concerned. If some of those kids become regular, keen and enthusiastic anglers then the day is well worthwhile.
